My name is Astacia Carter. I was born and raised in Utah. Growing up, I was raised by my mom with help from my grandma and grandpa. My biological dad was in and out of jail and always seemed to be in trouble with the law. My mom worked hard to make a living. When I was 5 my mom remarried to the most amazing dad anyone could ever ask for. About 2 years later, my baby brother was born. I couldn’t ask for a better family. Although I have had many struggles in life, I have fought to make my life better. I am a much stronger person because of the things I have been through. I believe that they have helped make me the person that I am today.
I have always had a passion for helping people, especially when they are less fortunate than me. Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to save my money and build a home big enough for all the homeless people. When ever I was downtown and had left over food from dinner, I was sure to find someone to give it to. I could never figure out why someone with a lot of money couldn’t help them. Although I may never get my wish of building a big enough home, I know that I can still do my part to make this world a better place.
A few weeks ago, I learned about a great opportunity at Salt Lake CAP. It was an internship through the Y.E.S. program. I found out that I could design my own project to help others in need. My first thought was, sign me up! There were so many options and after thinking it over, I finally found the right one for me.
My dream in life is to make a huge difference in this world. I want to put an end to poverty, abuse, sadness, and hunger. Nobody should ever have to go to bed hungry or sleep on the streets. Nobody should have to be abused and especially not put up with it. I dream of a perfect world, and even though it may not be possible, it’s something I will always work for.
During my spare time, I love to go shopping and spend time with my best friend. I also love volunteering. I plan on going to school to become to become a therapist so that I can help others with their struggles. I want to be there for kids that have gone through the same situations I have. I plan on making this world a better place and I don’t plan on stopping until I have made a difference.
